Among those charged in a home-invasion robbery that left one woman dead Tuesday morning was a man who was defending his home.

Court records show that the Gainesville Police Department arrested Dovico Miles, 44, a victim of the invasion, after he told police he wrestled away one of the guns that a robber had come into his home with. Miles then hid the gun after the incident and was charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The deceased victim, who was in the home with Miles at the time of the robbery, has been identified as D'halanai Armstrong. Her age and relation to Miles are unknown at this time.

GPD later arrested Alderious White, 28, and Jason Ward, 38, who both were charged with premeditated first-degree murder, five counts of robbery with a firearm and possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon.

Both men are still in the care of UF Health Shands, guarded by police.

Tiara Luckie, 30, who police say was a getaway driver, has also been charged with accessory to murder.

In a news release issued Wednesday, GPD announced that it had arrested White, Ward and Luckie but failed to mention that Miles was charged after defending his home.

Miles' arrest was first reported by WCJB-20.

The shooting occurred around 7 a.m. Tuesday along Northeast 16th Terrace in Gainesville, where GPD say White and Ward broke into the home before shots broke out. Police say the shooting was related to drugs but did not provide details.

Once GPD arrived on the scene, officers performed extensive life-saving procedures on all White, Ward and Armstong before they were transported to a nearby hospital, according to a Tuesday GPD release.

Armstrong later died from her injuries, while White and Ward were considered the main suspects and kept under police supervision at the hospital.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting and ask that anyone with information contact GPD Detective Russano at 352-393-7719 or RussanoDB@cityofgainesville.org.
