3 arrested for stealing $5,800 in merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Santa Rosa

(KRON) — Three men were arrested Monday for allegedly stealing over $5,800 in merchandise from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. Santa Rosa PD officers were dispatched at around 2:46 p.m. to the Dick’s location at 1975 Cleveland Avenue on a report of organized retail theft.

Employees at the store reported that three men loaded “significant” merchandise into garbage bags and left the store. They also provided officers with a vehicle description and license plate as the suspects fled the scene.

The vehicle was spotted a short while later heading south on Highway 101 near Hearn Avenue. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Henry-1 helicopter got a visual on the vehicle and coordinated with additional SCSO deputies to assist with a traffic stop.

When deputies attempted the stop, the vehicle fled and a pursuit ensured, resulting in a crash on southbound 101 between Cotati and Petaluma. All three men were taken into custody by responding deputies near the crash site.

According to police, the crew was also likely responsible for similar thefts at a number of Dick’s Sporting Goods stores. While the extent of those thefts is still under investigation, the total loss from thefts attributed to this crew is thought to be over $75,000.

A search of the crashed vehicle revealed $5,800 in stolen merchandise, clothing the suspects wore during the theft and a loaded ghost gun. All three suspects suffered minor injuries. After medical clearance, they were booked into Sonoma County Jail.

The suspects were identified as:

  • Brandon Owens, 23, of Oakland

The crew were arrested for charges that included:

The vehicle pursuit and crash are being investigated by the SCSO and California Highway Patrol, respectively.
