3 arrested in protest of Calif. officer acquittal

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Three people have been arrested while protesting the acquittal of two former California police officers charged in the beating death of a homeless man.

Police Sgt. Jeff Stuart says Saturday's demonstration in Fullerton, which drew about 200 people, turned violent when someone assaulted a KCBS-TV news reporter. Stuart says the reporter fled into her news van, and her crew called 911 when a group surrounded the van and damaged the vehicle.

Stuart says officers in riot gear came to disperse the crowd.

He says one person was arrested in the reporter's assault and two others in spray painting an obscenity and an anarchist symbol on police property.

The protest came after an Orange County jury on Monday found two former Fullerton officers not guilty in the 2011 death of Kelly Thomas.
