Nearly 3 in 4 Poles oppose Poland’s or any other NATO country’s troops participating in Russia’s war on Ukraine, according to a Polish Statistics Bureau (CB)S) survey, Euractiv reported.

Only 10.2% support the idea, while 74.8% are opposed.

Almost 40% of Poles would back NATO taking a tougher stance against Russia for its aggression on Ukraine, the survey said.

39% of Poles consider NATO's actions regarding Russia's war on Ukraine to be "too cautious," and almost the same number (37%) believe that the Alliance is responding to the situation adequately.

Only 14% of respondents believe that NATO is overreacting to the conflict, and 10% do not have a clear opinion.

Sending Western troops to Ukraine

Ukraine's Western allies could create a coalition to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with long-range weapons, and future Western troop deployment to Ukraine should not be ruled out, French President Emmanuel Macron said after a conference in support of Ukraine held in Paris on Feb. 26.

Several NATO countries publicly rejected the idea of sending troops to Ukraine in response to Macron's statements, including Poland, the United States, Germany, Czechia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas did not reject the idea, adding that their troops would only be used for training missions.

French troops could help Ukraine protect certain borders, and take part in exercises or ground air defense, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said on Feb. 29. He ruled out the participation of French soldiers in battles "directly on the front line."

NATO foreign ministers will discuss the establishment of an Alliance mission to support Ukraine to train Ukrainians and provide logistical and other assistance, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said following two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.
