29 Must-Try Whoopie Pies
The whoopie pie is in a category all its own. Considered to be eithera cake, cookie or pie(depending on who you ask), it encompasses the best parts of all of our favorite desserts. It has ample amounts of frosting just like cakes, and it's small and compact enough to eat with our hands -- like a cookie.
Theorigin of this great dessertis up for debate. Pennsylvania, Maine and New Hampshire are all claiming ownership to the whoopie pie. One story we quite like asserts that the name started with Amish farmers. When they found these desserts packed in their lunch by their wives who made them from leftover cake batter, they would shoot "Whoopie!" That's pretty much how we feel when we see them too.
