Police are asking for the public’s help in a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 26-year-old man in Exposition Park on Tuesday, authorities announced.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division were patrolling the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Vermont Avenue at around 5 p.m. when they heard gunfire nearby, according to a department news release.

At the scene in a strip mall parking lot, police found the victim, later identified as L.A. resident Jonathan Orellana-Lozada, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the shooting and declared the 26-year-old dead at the scene.

Aerial footage of the investigation showed a canopy in the parking lot, much of which was cordoned off with crime scene tape as police set up a perimeter, questioned people in the area and searched for a suspect or suspects.
