24-year-old man shot, killed at Lakeland apartment complex

LAKELAND — A 24-year-old man was shot and killed at a Lakeland apartment complex Saturday.

The Lakeland Police Department said officers responded to Big Oaks Apartments located at 1586 Big Oaks Drive regarding a shooting and found the male victim inside an apartment with a gunshot wound. LPD said officers tended to the victim's wounds until emergency medical responders arrived. He was then taken to Lakeland Regional Health where he died from his injuries.

Detectives arrived on the scene and began processing evidence and interviewing witnesses, LPD said in a release, including those who lived in the apartment. The shooting doesn't appear to be a random act at this point in the ongoing investigation, officials said.
