A 22-year-old Winter Haven woman and a Port St. Lucie couple were killed Saturday night in a head-on crash on State Road 60 east of Lake Wales.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Sunday morning that the crash happened about 9:30 p.m. just east of County Road 630.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Sheriff's Office said it appeared that Hannah Wieser, 22, of Winter Haven was driving a 2015 Ford Flex west on State Road 60 East, where the highway is still one lane in each direction, when she attempted to pass a Kia van driven by a family from England. When she entered the eastbound lane, she struck a Ford F-150 carrying Luis Rodriguez, 54, Jomar Maldonado,52, and their 3-year-old grandson, Jaydyn.

Weiser, Rodriguez and Maldonado died in the crash. Jaydyn, who was strapped into his car seat, was taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, the Sheriff's Office said.

The Kia struck Wieser's car after the crash but suffered little damage.

All of the drivers and passengers involved were wearing seatbelts, the Sheriff's Office said. The family from Port St. Lucie were returning home from Busch Gardens. The family from England were at River Ranch and heading back to their rental in Haines City.
