21YO man arrested in Bertie County homicide

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A 21-year-old Windsor, North Carolina man accused of murder has been arrested.

On March 13, Bertie County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Hexlena Road in Aulander because someone had been shot. Upon arrival, they found 28-year-old Dashawn Malik Boone dead from a gunshot wound.

Law enforcement officials were able to gather sufficient probable cause to obtain murder warrants for 21-year-old Javyn A’Marion Marqyez Askew of Windsor, North Carolina.

Askew was taken into custody without incident early Tuesday morning.

“My prayers and condolences go out to the family of the victim and the suspect because two young men’s lives were lost due to senseless gun violence. said Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin. “Again I’m very proud of the collaborative efforts with each of the partnering agency’s affiliated through the Down East Drug Task Force. I personally want to thank everyone for the time spent working this case.”

Currently, Askew is in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail with no bond.
