Wayne Rooney offers a piece of Sir Alex Ferguson's advice to Man United wonderkid Marcus Rashford
Wayne Rooney has passed on some advice he was given by Sir Alex Ferguson to Manchester United wonderkid Marcus Rashford.
Rashford followed in Rooney’s footsteps by bursting onto the Premier League scene as a teenager and is expected to carve out a long career at Old Trafford.
Rooney, who returned home to Everton in the summer after becoming United’s all-time leading goalscorer, honed his skills under the watchful eye of Ferguson.
The legendary manager played a crucial role in the development of the Red Devils record breaker as he spent 13 trophy-laden years in Manchester.
Rooney has revealed some words of tactical wisdom helped him on his journey and reckons Rashford would benefit from a similar approach.

Rooney told talkSPORT: “Sometimes early on in my career I was working too hard tracking back and Alex Ferguson sat me down.
“It does affect you when you’re in the opponents’ box. You’re a bit leggy. Alex Ferguson told me not to do so much work and be ready for when we get chances.
“I feel with Rashford it’s maybe a bit of the same. You see him going back into the full-back areas.
“It’s great he’s got that enthusiasm but, to get the best out of him going forward, he maybe needs to let the defenders and the midfielders do it.”
Rashford has found the net nine times in 27 appearances for Mourinho’s Red Devils so far this season.
