Pawtucket police release name of man shot, killed in Pawtucket Friday

PAWTUCKET — A 21-year-old man was fatally shot Friday during gunfire at the junction of Barton and Montgomery streets, according to the police.

The Pawtucket police released the victim's name Sunday, identifying him as Julian Garcia of North Providence.

Garcia was walking back to his vehicle after delivering food for an unidentified delivery service provider when he was shot multiple times, the police said in a Sunday update. Detectives believe more than one suspect may be responsible and that the incident wasn't random, the police said.

Shots were reported in the area at about 9 p.m. Friday, and investigators found multiple shell casings at the scene, Detective Sgt. Theodore Georgitsis said in a Saturday news release. Police also learned that someone had taken a man with a gunshot injury to Miriam Hospital in Providence, the release said.

Later, Georgitsis said, the gunshot victim was pronounced dead.

Detectives confirmed a connection between the shooting and both the man and the vehicle that brought him to the hospital, Georgitsis said.
