203,000 ovens recalled over multiple fire and injury reports

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning people about a potential fire hazard lurking in their kitchens.

The CPSC announced on Friday, May 17 that Electrolux Group is recalling some of its Frigidaire and Kenmore smooth-top electric ovens due to numerous reports of burns and fires. The danger comes with the surface heating elements which can turn on by themselves, fail to turn off after being switched off and temperatures can be different from those selected by users.

The recall impacted around 203,000 units sold nationwide from June 2001 to August 2009 for prices between $1,000 and $2,500. This is the second time these units have been recalled.

What happened to these Kansas counties and why do they no longer exist?

The CPSC says since the initial recall for these units was announced in August 2009 there have been more than 200 reports of the ovens “behaving erratically.” The ovens have also reportedly caused 14 fires and eight injuries.

More information on which units are impacted by this recall can be found below. The Kenmore elite models have serial numbers ranging from VF122xxxxx – VF334xxxxx while the Frigidaire models have serial numbers VF122xxxxx – VF936xxxxx.
