2024 Severe Weather Season Outlook & planning ahead

Columbus, Ga. (WRBL)-Believe it or not we are already in this year’s severe weather season. Our normal severe weather season runs from early December through May. Right after that we have to start watching the tropics from June- the end of November.

This year, NOAA expects El Nino to remain for several seasons, which means that we will see more systems coming out of the gulf, and wetter conditions across southern GA. This could also mean a calmer severe season, but a more ramped up tropical season.

Before severe weather strikes it is important to make sure you have your severe weather kit in hand, a plan on where to go, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. These could include the WRBL Radar App, your NOAA weather radio, or your TV.

Do not rely on the the power/cell phone towers to stay on during these storms. If you don’t have a kit or don’t know your severe weather plan, take the time this week to go over these with your family members.
