2024 ‘leaplings’ born around St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – Several babies have been born around the St. Louis area on one of the rarest birthdays, Feb. 29.

Those born on Leap Day are also known as ‘leaplings.’

Local hospitals celebrated these babies with special onesies or bunting.

St. Luke’s Hospital put the newborns in a bunting decorated as a frog that says “Hoppy Leap Day!”

Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur gave their leaplings a Leap Day onesie topped with a green frog hat.

According to the New York Times, the chances of being born on Leap Day are 1 in 1,461, and there are around 363,000 people in the U.S. who share the birthday.
