Here's a look at the 2022-2023 Ravenna girls basketball team (with all quotes from coach Courtney O'Donnell):

Head Coach: Courtney O'Donnell (1st season)

Assistant Coaches: Maddy Raynard, Tyler Conley

2021-2022 Record: 6-15 (3-10 Metro Athletic Conference)

Returning Letterwinners (6): Kyla Carney, Mary Laudato, Faith Farris, Hannah Huff, Breena Kainrad, Kamryn Clark

Letterwinners Lost (4): Miracle Sandifer, Anna Jones, Morgan Workman, Taneyah Willis

Overall: Ravens girls basketball will look a little different this year as Daryl Anderson is no longer leading the team and Anna Jones is no longer running the point. That said, Ravenna brings back plenty of experience, including a longtime sharpshooter in Kyla Carney and an impressive post in Mary Laudato, who can alter games defensively with her shot-blocking. Ravens coach Courtney O'Donnell said that she expects that "utilizing our size will be one of our strengths."

Backcourt: Senior Kyla Carney, one of the Ravens' leading scorers for years, has "great skills on the floor," including impressive range, and is a "great leader by example." Sophomore Breena Kainrad similarly has a "great shot" and also stands out for her hustle.

Frontcourt: Senior Mary Laudato brings plenty of experience in the paint, where she has been battling for the Ravenna varsity since her sophomore season. Laudato is "excellent at playing in the paint, will post up and is not afraid to be physical." Junior Faith Farris also got substantial time last season, including a 13-point performance against Springfield, and is a "very hard worker that really understands the game."

The Road Ahead: The Ravens have an early highlight as they head to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland to take on Coventry in their second Metro Athletic Conference contest of the season. Their next two MAC contests are no less interesting as Ravenna faces rivals Streetsboro (Dec. 1) and Field (Dec. 5). Also watch for a couple of non-conference rivalry clashes against Roosevelt (Dec. 27) and Southeast (Jan. 21).
