2021 Park City Mall shooter pleads guilty to 60 charges
LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) — A Lancaster city man pleaded guilty to 60 charges on Thursday stemming from a shooting at the Park City Center mall on Oct. 17, 2021.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, 18-year-old Jeremiahs Sanchez pleaded no contest to two counts of aggravated assault, guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, and 52 counts of recklessly endangering another person.
The office says he will be will be sentenced by Lancaster County Judge Dennis Reinaker following a pre-sentence investigation and will have to pay $24,536.73 in restitution.
On the day of the incident, according to the office, Sanchez, then 16, was carrying a stolen, loaded firearm in the mall when he was was approached by 18-year-old Elijah Deliz and 30-year-old Sergio Vargas and a fight broke out between them.
During the fight, the office says, Sanchez fired one shot hitting Deliz in the leg and another striking a 30-year-old uninvolved civilian in the arm. The civilian was accompanied 5-year-old child, according to the office.
The district attorney’s office says Vargas then pulled Sanchez to the ground and another shot was fired, striking Vargas in the hand.
The office says a bystander, legally possessing a firearm, then shot at Sanchez three times, told him to stop moving, and took the firearm Sanchez possessed away.
According to the office, 52 people were in the area at the time of the shooting.
As people rushed out of the mall after the shooting, the office says an elderly woman fell and was injured.
