Player of the year

Chase Sturz, Exeter

Chase Sturz considered not playing the 2021 season because of his concern over his mother's health and his frustration over losing the 2020 season.

With his mother recovered from breast cancer, he wound up deciding to play. His Exeter teammates and coaches are glad he did.

Sturz, a 5-10 outside hitter, led the Eagles to the Berks League championship and was voted the Player of the Year by the league coaches.

A starter since his freshman season, Sturz averaged 14.7 kills, 7.4 digs and 1.9 aces this season. He led Exeter to an 18-3 record, including two regular season losses to Berks I champ Wilson and a five-set defeat to Chambersburg in the first round of the District 3 Class 3A playoffs.

Sturz had 14 kills, six digs and one block to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Wilson and their third straight league championship.

"That kid has traveled all over the country with our club teams," said retiring Exeter coach Shawn Ganter. "He's put in all kinds of time. I love that kid. I'm super happy he got a successful season."
