    Introduction

Toyota’s full-size SUV, the Sequoia, is based on the same platform and powertrains as the Tundra light-duty pickup truck. It seats up to 8 people, and for 2018 the Sequoia is offered in four trim levels: SR5, Limited, Platinum, and new TRD Sport that is based on the SR5.

    Interior Features

To accommodate the standard Toyota Safety Sense technologies, which are detailed below, the 2018 Sequoia receives new instrumentation with a 4.2-in. driver-information display. The luxury-themed Platinum trim level now has wood-tone interior trim.

Notably, the Sequoia is roomier inside than the full-size SUV segment sales leader, offering 18.9 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the third-row seat, 66.6 cu. ft. behind the second-row seat, and 120.1 cu. ft. of maximum volume behind the front seats.

    Optional Features

By upgrading from the standard SR5 version to the new TRD Sport, the Sequoia adds a sport-tuned suspension, 20-in. wheels, unique grille treatment, 7-passenger seating in black fabric, blacked-out exterior trim, and TRD interior bits and pieces.

Choosing the Limited trim level over the SR5 provides a different set of 20-in. wheels, chrome exterior detailing, power tailgate, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat, power-reclining third-row seat, navigation system, and Entune App Suite technology.

The Sequoia Platinum includes upgraded side mirrors, perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, rear-seat entertainment system, and a JBL premium sound system.

    Under the Hood

Carrying over from the 2017 model year, the Sequoia’s 5.7-liter V-8 engine produces 381 horsepower and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. A 4-wheel-drive system is optional, and the Sequoia is rated to get 13 mpg city and up to 18 mpg highway. Maximum towing capacity measures 7,400 lbs.

    Safety

The big news for 2018 is the addition of Toyota Safety Sense as standard equipment. This upgrade installs a dynamic radar cruise control system, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.

    Technology

Toyota has announced no changes to the Sequoia’s family of Entune infotainment systems, so they presumably carry over from the 2017 model year.

That means the SR5 and TRD Sport are equipped with a 6.1-in. touch-screen display, quick-charge USB port, Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, satellite and HD Radio, voice-recognition technology with Siri Eyes Free compatibility, connected navigation app, and a reversing camera.

The Sequoia Limited adds an integrated navigation system and Entune App Suite capability, while the Platinum comes with a JBL premium sound system. Both upgraded versions stick with the tiny 6.1-in. display screen.
