2017 Miami Dolphins Draft Prospects: Safety Lorenzo Jerome
Continuing our new daily series, we continue to take a look at players the Miami Dolphins may consider selecting at some point during the 2017 NFL Draft. While these players may not all be first round quality, this series will look at players across all the rounds that the Miami Dolphins could select during the draft process.
Moving on from the potential first round selection of linebacker Ryan Anderson, today, we take a look at a player who could be a late day three selection for the Miami Dolphins. Looking to add secondary depth this year, the Dolphins could land one of the best FCS prospects in this draft class in safety Lorenzo Jerome.

Background
A four year starter at St. Francis, Lorenzo Jerome was one of the most recognized and praised members of the FCS community over his four years and over the last few months. Arriving on the main scene following his stellar performance at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and at the Senior Bowl, Jerome guarantees to be a sleeper pick in this draft class.
Also possessing a solid kick return ability, Jerome could be someone that a team uses at multiple levels throughout the season. Given his talent and production levels at St. Francis, Jerome should be someone that can play solidly at the next level. In fact, his low draft stock may be due to his college career at an FCS school.
Strengths
Possesses outstanding instincts from the safety position and also has the ball skills team’s love for a center field type of player. Take direct paths to the ball and ball carrier while also possessing great timing to meet the receiver when the ball does. Experience playing in the slot and is not afraid to overlap when he feels the ball may be coming his way.
Proved during both the NFLPA and Senior Bowls that he will be a playmaker at the next level. Production in terms of interceptions and big plays was through the roof during his time in college. Rushed downhill and will always go for the sure leg tackle when pursuing the ball carrier. Also possesses the ability to be a punt and kick returner if needed.
Weakness
Lacks the size many look for in a center field type of safety. Will struggle to match up and outleap many of the league’s taller receivers. Will need to add weight if he wants to remain a physical presence on the field. Quicker than he is fast. Tight hipped and barely lifts feet off the ground when running, something that will cause issues when he is in pursuit.
Doesn’t possess the ability to play in the slot at the NFL level. Grabs and hangs on when he is beat by receivers and should also draw plenty of flags at the NFL level. Can get caught focusing on the turnover and be beat due to his loss of technique.
