The 2017 LPL Summer group draw process took a slightly more formal turn this split. Teams sent their representatives to the stage to draw randomly from each pool. These draws placed teams into their opposing team’s group.
Team WE, winners of 2017 LPL Spring, drew first and selected Newbee Gaming, perceived as the weakest Pool 2 team, for RNG’s group. RNG then drew EDward Gaming, the team that placed third in 2017 LPL Spring, into WE’s group. EDG, the higher seed, drew next, and picked OMG for Group B, leaving I May for Group A.
The process continued with OMG drawing the first team from the third pool of teams until the draw process concluded. A few things, like EDward Gaming and WE in the same group, remained the same form Spring. But JingDong (previously QG) joined RNG’s group along with Newbee, swapping places with Snake and Invictus Gaming. Press attending the event generally agreed that Group A is the stronger group.
DAN Gaming and Suning, the newest LPL teams, were drawn last. Final groups were as follows:
Royal Never Give Up
Oh My God
