20 Tons of Nutella and Chocolate Reported Stolen in Germany

Have you ever been craving chocolate so much you'd do just about anything to get your hands on something sweet?

A semi-truck loaded with 20 tons of Nutella, Kinder Surprise eggs — which are illegal in the U.S., BTW — and other chocolatey treats was stolen from the central German town of Neustadt over the weekend, according to Germany's Deutsche Welle. You read that right: Someone in Germany just pulled off the sweetest heist ever and is now, presumably, bathing in 40,000 pounds of chocolate, reportedly valued around 70,000 euros, or $82,000.

Local police said in a statement that "anyone offered large quantities [of chocolate] via unconventional channels should report it to the police immediately," according to DW. Another local outlet, [Hessenschau](http://www.hessenschau.de/panorama/neustadt-anhaenger-mit-20-tonnen-schokolade-gestohlen,schokolade-gestohlen-100.html), noted that the police spokesperson also advised anyone lucky enough to stumble upon 20 tons of chocolate to "not throw any of that away," according to NPR — although they should probably be more worried about the stolen goodies being eaten up.

DW reports that police are investigating whether this robbery was "linked to another theft in nearby Weimar, also over the weekend — this time of a truck with an empty trailer," and notes that another sweet sting operation occurred in Germany last weekend. "Police in the northern town of Wittenburg were searching for a semi-trailer filled with 30 tons of fruit juice, and worth about 70,000 euros, that was stolen sometime Saturday morning," according to DW. And NPR adds that German thieves aren't the only ones with a sweet tooth: Earlier this year, two men allegedly associated with a Russian crime syndicate were charged with masterminding "the transport and sale of a whopping 10,000 pounds of 'stolen chocolate confections' to a government informant." Are they colluding with Willy Wonka?

But next time you're really in the mood for a spoonful of Nutella, keep in mind that there's no need to steal an entire truck full of the chocolate hazelnut spread. Instead, try out Krispy Kreme's Nutella-topped Nutty Cocoa Ring Doughnut, whip up Gigi Hadid's fave midnight snack of Nutella and ice cream crepes, or book a trip to Chicago and visit the brand new Nutella Café. You'll satisfy your sweet tooth and avoid being chased by police — it's a win-win!
