2 West Michigan United Ways to join forces

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Heart of West Michigan United Way and United Way of Ottawa and Allegan Counties are set to join forces.

The two will combine into one entity, known as Heart of West Michigan United Way, leaders announced Tuesday. The organization will serve Kent, Ottawa and Allegan counties.

According to the release, the merger is expected to help serve the community better, cut costs and improve efficiency.

Leaders say the organization’s existing locations in each county will stay in place, and all three counties will be represented on Heart of West Michigan United Way’s board. Money raised in each county will be allocated to that county or as directed by donors, they say.

The top vehicle safety regulator in the U.S. has launched a formal probe into an April crash involving the all-electric VinFast VF8 SUV that claimed the lives of a family of four, TechCrunch has learned. A spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) told TechCrunch on Monday that its Special Crash Investigations division will "document the crash circumstances and the ensuing fire." Fintech lender SoLo Funds is being sued again by the government over its lending practices
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is suing SoLo Funds, a fintech company that enables peer-to-peer lending, alleging that the company used “digital dark patterns” to deceive borrowers and illegally took fees while advertising to consumers that there were no fees. “The CFPB is suing SoLo for using digital trickery to hide interest and fees on its online loans,” CFPB Director Rohit Chopra said in a May 17 press release announcing the suit. The CFPB also alleges that the company misrepresented the cost of loans, interfered with the ability of consumers to understand what they were agreeing to, collected on loans they shouldn’t have and made false threats related to credit reporting.
