2 teens charged with shooting 15-year-old girl at Akron park

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Two teens face charges in an Akron park shooting that left a 15-year-old girl hospitalized earlier this month.

According to Akron police, two 17-year-old boys were taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility on felonious assault charges.

Akron police officers were called to a shooting at Fuller Street and Minson Way, near Joy Park, around 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.

Investigators learned that multiple shots were fired and a teen was reportedly struck, according to the Akron Police Department.

When they got there, officers says they found a 15-year-old girl on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers at the scene applied a tourniquet until EMS crews got there. Investigators say the victim was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Gun pulled at Cleveland elementary school

Akron police detectives at the time believed an altercation led to the shooting.

Through the ongoing investigation, detectives identified the two suspects in connection to the shooting.

Detectives arrested one of the suspects on Steiner Avenue Tuesday afternoon, while members of the Anti-Violence Bureau arrested the other suspect on Kimlyn Circle Wednesday afternoon.
