2 teens charged with killing 13-year-old in Nicetown restaurant

Two teenagers have been charged with shooting and killing a 13-year-old boy inside a Nicetown Chinese restaurant last month, according to police.

Tymear Johnson, 19, of Grays Ferry, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder and related offenses for allegedly shooting Khisser Davis-Papther on March 10 inside the Gold Fish Chinese takeout, on the 2000 block of West Hunting Park Avenue, police said. Davis-Papther survived for nine days before dying at St. Christopher’s Hospital on March 19.

Christopher T. Southerland, 18, of Nicetown, was arrested March 22 and also was charged with murder and related counts, according to police. Authorities said they believe Johnson pulled the trigger, but previously released surveillance photos of the incident show two men standing near Davis-Papther in the restaurant before the shooting.

Police said the motive for the murder was an argument, but did not elaborate. Chief Inspector Scott Small said last month that video showed two men approaching Davis-Papther while he sat at a table. After a brief conversation, Small said, one of the alleged assailants pulled out a gun and shot Davis-Papther in the head, after which both men fled.

Johnson and Southerland were being held without bail, according to court records.
