Two people walked away from a plane crash in Hillsborough County on Thursday, April 4, a county fire rescue official said. Video shows the plane slowly dropping down under a parachute.

When Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to multiple 911 calls about a crash, they found an upside-down plane but the occupants unharmed, according to a Facebook post. A parachute had been deployed, the post said.

The flight left Tampa Executive Airport at 3:16 p.m., according to FlightAware. It was the plane's third flight on Thursday.

HCFR told FOX 13 the parachute got caught on a tree and may have prevented the plane from hitting power lines.

Video shot by Sheri Catrett shows the plane dropping down into the neighborhood. HCFR said it landed near a vacant home.

Planes have parachutes?

Whole Aircraft Recovery Parachute Systems (WARPS) have been getting more popular for light aircraft, according to Kevin Baker of Alion Aviation.

"When activated, the system releases a parachute that is capable of slowing the aircraft’s descent," Baker said, "allowing it to land at a speed that minimizes the risk of injury to the occupants and damage to the aircraft."

The system was pioneered by Boris Popov in 1980 after he survived a crash in his hang glider, according to Smithsonian Magazine.
