2 shot fatally in Vero Lake Estates neighborhood in Indian River County
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY − The bodies of two people were found in the Vero Lake Estates neighborhood where officials said they were shot and killed Monday.
Deputies were called to a home off 77th Street and 105th Court, where Sheriff Eric Flowers said the bodies were found just after 3 p.m.
One body was found in the yard of the home, and the second in front of a vehicle, which Flowers said had been damaged by gunfire and parked by the roadside where loose cash was scattered nearby.
“We are working to identify them (and) the next step will be a next-of-kin notification,” said Flowers.
Flowers spoke with media gathered Monday evening several yards north of where the shootings are thought to have occurred.
So far, those who were shot have only been described as two men.
“It does appear as though it’s gunshot wounds,” Flowers said. “There are definitely bullet holes in the vehicle, broken glass (and) a variety of money that is scattered all along the roadway.”
A homeowner heard loud noises outside and looked out into her driveway and saw the body lying in her yard, leading to her calling 911, he said.
The other person was found near the vehicle parked about 20 yards away, he said.
“It appears as though the vehicle is pulled off on the side of the road in front of a wooded lot,” Flowers said.
The vehicle was captured by agency license plate cameras at 2:30 p.m., but Flowers said he did not want to say from what direction it entered the county.
Neighbors living on a street behind the home where the bodies were found either said they did not hear anything or did not want to comment.
Detectives and deputies remained in the area for several hours Monday evening speaking with residents, Flowers said.
