The crash happened around 11:20 a.m.

A truck with a mobile “crash cushion” attached to it was on eastbound I-70 when it was struck.

The workers were outside of the vehicle when it was hit.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the crash cushion was there to protect the workers. It also said that there was proper signage in the area and that all safety protocols were being strictly followed.

According to police, the at-fault driver was cited for careless driving.

Several lanes of eastbound I-70 were closed for a time as a result of the crash. This caused traffic to back up for several miles near the crash until the lanes were reopened.
