Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, 54, had been a member of the Sheriff’s office since 1992. Earlier this year, he was working at Batavia Downs when he was notified of an alleged verbal confrontation. He and members of the facility’s security staff responded and began to escort Elmore and Wilcox out of the hotel, according to officials.
During an alleged struggle with Elmore, officials said Sanfratello tried to use a stun gun, but suffered a fatal “medical event.” Prior to the medical event, Elmore allegedly hit Sanfratello in the head and face with a metal necklace.
In court Monday, orders of protection were issued for the victims and witnesses, according to the Genesee County District Attorney’s office.
Elmore’s bail status of $150,000 was continued, while Wilcox’s was set at $20,000. Both are scheduled to appear in court again on July 31.
