2 pedestrians injured in separate crashes, Metro police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Officers were called out to two different crashes overnight that left two pedestrians injured in Nashville.

The first incident was reported shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 along Murfreesboro Pike near Nashboro Village.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates a Honda CRV was traveling north on Murfreesboro Pike, approaching the Brooksboro Terrace intersection in the left lane, when it hit a pedestrian who was in the roadway.

Officials said the pedestrian — who has been tentatively identified as a 63-year-old — is believed to have been crossing Murfreesboro Pike against a red light and outside of the marked crosswalk when he was struck.

“The intersection at this location has marked crosswalks on the west and north sides of the intersection. The east side of Murfreesboro Pike has a sidewalk,” authorities told News 2. “There are two streetlights on the south side of the intersection, one on each side of the road; both were operational.”

Police said the driver had no signs of impairment. In addition, witnesses corroborated the driver’s statement, telling law enforcement the light was green for Murfreesboro Pike and the situation was unavoidable. At this time, officials do not expect charges to be filed against the driver.

The pedestrian is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to authorities.

The second crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Friday, May 3 on the Interstate 40 East exit ramp onto Donelson Pike.

In this incident, police told News 2 the pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

No additional details have been released about either crash.
