2-Year-Old Boy Sneaks Out of the House at 2 a.m. to Take His Tiny BMW for a Spin
A 2-year-old boy snuck out of his South Carolina home in the middle of the night to go for a ride in his battery-operated luxury car Sunday, police said.
The boy apparently left the house under the shroud of darkness while wearing nothing but sweat pants and a diaper while his parents were sleeping at about 2 a.m. He then got behind the wheel of his BMW x6 toy car.
It wasn't long before a passerby discovered the bizarre vehicle, equipped with tail lights and silver rims, about a quarter of a mile away, police said.

“It seems he just slipped out during the night and started driving down the road,” said Ken Bell, the public information officer for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. "If he would have gone any further he would have hit a main road.
According to Bell, the boy wasn’t frightened and seemed fine although he seemed confused about being taken to the police station.
Police called the Department of Social Services, but the boy’s parents were eventually found and notified by police who spotted some small tire marks near the child’s home.

“The police asked them if they had a 2-year-old son and they said yes,” said Bell. “Police asked him to check if he was in bed and he wasn’t. They were shocked.”
No charges were filed as DSS and the police determined there was no wrongdoing on the part of his parents. Authorities suggested putting a chain lock on their door.
“We were fortunate it was happy ending,” said Bell. “So many things could have gone wrong."
