2 marijuana bills up for a vote in the House
The NH House scheduled to vote on 2 marijuana bills this week; medical, decriminalization
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- Two marijuana bills are scheduled for a vote this week in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, one to legalize the drug for medical use and the other to decriminalize the possession of up to an ounce.
Matt Simon with the Marijuana Policy Project said Monday he expects medical use will pass but decriminalization won't, though he noted both have passed the House in previous sessions. Gov. Maggie Hassan supports medical marijuana, but has said repeatedly she won't back further decriminalization.
Marijuana is decriminalized in neighboring Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Those states have all passed medical marijuana laws as well. Vermont has medical marijuana and lawmakers are considering a decriminalization proposal this legislative session that has supporters in both houses of the Legislature there.
