2 killed, 2 others injured in late-night car crash in SLO neighborhood

A vehicle crash killed two people and injured two others in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday night.

At about 9:30 p.m., police said one vehicle speeding southbound down Beach Street did not appear to stop at a stop sign — crashing into another vehicle driving through the intersection on Pismo Street, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The speeding vehicle overturned multiple times, and two male passengers who had not been wearing seat belts were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The two men were seriously injured in the crash, according to the release. They were later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police said one of these men was the driver of the vehicle, according to the release.

Names of the two men killed are not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The third passenger in the vehicle was wearing his seat belt and survived the crash with minor injuries, the release said.

Meanwhile, a woman driving in the second vehicle was sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police closed portions of Pismo and Beach streets while the Severe Collision Investigative Detail investigated the scene of the crash. The streets have since reopened.

Alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to the release.
