2 killed, 1 injured in I-57 crash

UPDATE: As of about 9 a.m. Tuesday, Illinois State Police reported that all lanes on I-57 are now open.

CHICAGO — A fatal crash shut down all northbound lanes on I-57 at 147th Street early Tuesday morning, causing significant delays.

Traffic was diverted around the crash site by using the slip ramp to Sibley Boulevard for several hours.

According to preliminary information from Illinois State Police, troopers responded to the crash location just before 2 a.m.

One person was declared dead on the scene and another died at the hospital, according to police.

A third occupant was transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
