GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Four people were hospitalized, including two children and a teenager, after a Sunday evening crash involving an SUV and a horse-drawn buggy in Jackson County.

There were nine people in the buggy, all from nearby Hanover. The operator was not hurt, but a 32-year-old woman suffered a hip injury and two 10-year-olds, one boy and one girl, sustained serious head injuries. The rest of the passengers, kids between 2 and 7 years of age, were not hurt.

The teenaged driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries. She, along with the three injured in the buggy, were transported to Henry Ford Health Hospital in Jackson for treatment.

The SUV driver was issued a citation for “unable to stop in an assured clear distance.” Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash.
