2 juveniles, adult, arrested after shooting in Avenal

AVENAL, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Three people were arrested following a shooting in Avenal that turned into a pursuit, the Avenal Police Department said.

Officers say about 4 p.m. on Thursday, a unit was patrolling in the area of 6th Avenue and Ventura Street in Avenal when they heard multiple shots fired around the area of 5th Avenue and Ventura Street.

Officers say they saw the suspect’s vehicle fleeing, leaving a juvenile suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to police, a pursuit began that went into Fresno County about 17 miles toward the Avenal cutoff and Lincoln Avenue. Officers with the California Highway Patrol Fresno and Kings County Sheriff’s ground units and air units assisted.

Authorities say they were able to arrest an adult and two juveniles.

The shooting victim was treated at the scene and eventually airlifted to a nearby trauma center where they are in stable condition.

This is an ongoing investigation.
