2 Italian marines accused of killing fishermen to be tried in India

NEW DELHI - An Italian official says India's Supreme Court has ruled that two Italian marines accused of killing two fishermen off the coast of India will be tried in a special court in New Delhi.

Italy had sought to have the two marines face trial in Italy.

But Italian Consul General Giampaolo Cutillo said the Supreme Court ruled Friday that the trial would take place in India's capital.

Cutillo said the Italian government was happy that the court had at least moved the trial from the southern state of Kerala, near where the shooting happened last year.

The marines were part of a military security team protecting a cargo ship.

They said they mistook the fishermen for pirates.
