2 injured after shipping container falls off semi-truck along the Kennedy Expressway

CHICAGO — Two people were injured on Sunday afternoon after a shipping container fell off of a semi-truck on the Kennedy Expressway.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash unfolded just before 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-90, near Grand Avenue.

Officers say a preliminary investigation indicates that the shipping container fell off of the semi while it was traveling along the expressway, causing damage to a nearby vehicle.

Authorities say following the crash, two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The left eastbound lane of the expressway was shut down for a couple of hours while authorities investigated the crash and it has since reopened.

Currently, it is unclear what caused the container to fall off the truck.
