2 injured in separate shootings Tuesday in Firestone Park and East Akron, police say

Two separate shootings occurred in Akron on Tuesday that left two people with non-life-threatening injuries, Akron Police said.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:40 p.m. in the 1200 block of Virginia Avenue in Firestone Park. Once police arrived, they located the 28-year-old woman who suffered a gunshot wound to her back. Police said officers gave her first aid until EMS arrived and transported her to Summa Health Akron City Hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Police said there was an argument involving unknown suspects. One of the individuals fired multiple shots that struck the victim, who police believe was not part of the argument. Detectives are working to identify who was involved in the incident.

This investigation is ongoing.

19-year-old injured in East Akron shooting

Police responded to another shooting incident Tuesday, this time in East Akron.

Officers received reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Minson Way around 9:35 p.m., finding the 19-year-old male victim once they arrived on the scene. The victim, suffering a gunshot wound to the torso, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The exact location of the shooting is still being determined, but investigators believe the victim arrived at a residence on Minson Way having already been shot.

Detectives are investigating the causes of the shooting. There are no known suspects.

While on the scene, officers discovered one of the interview subjects they spoke with had an unrelated, outstanding murder warrant out of Clarksburg, W. Va. The 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody and transported to Summit County Jail without incident.
