2 injured in Nesquehoning fire, many displaced

NESQUEHONING, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Sunday morning fire injured two and displaced several people from their homes in Carbon County.

28/22 News spoke with Nesquehoning Hose Company Number 1 Fire Chief John McArdle at the scene.

Chief McArdle explained crews from Nesquehoning, Lansford, Jim Thorpe, and more were called to the 200 block of East Railroad Street in Nesquehoning at around 7:15 a.m. for a second-alarm fire.

There were two reported entrapments with one person able to escape the flames while the other jumped off the second floor of the home, according to Chief McArdle

Chief McArdle added three pets were in the fire, with one being rescued by firefighters, and the other two dying in the blaze.

Officials say at least three were displaced by the fire and the scene was cleared at about 2:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and Chief McArdle says the fire is under investigation.

Nesquehoning VFW Post #8008 is helping the fire victims by setting up a drop-off station.
