2 indicted in Coffee County for TennCare fraud, theft

COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two people have been charged in connection with a theft scheme involving Medicaid funds, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

The TBI said special agents assigned to its Medicaid Fraud Control Division started investigating in June 2023 after receiving information from the Tennessee Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services.

Over the course of the case, authorities said they determined 46-year-old Johnny Ray Brooks and 34-year-old Ashley Marie Harrell submitted fraudulent information in order to receive payment for caregiver services that weren’t provided.

On Tuesday, May 14, the Coffee County Grand Jury returned indictments, charging Brooks and Harrell with one count each of TennCare fraud and theft, according to officials.
