No firefighters reported injuries, Fire Chief Michael Barakey says.

The fire was knocked down at 11:06 a.m.

There’s no word on what caused it at this time, but the fire marshal is investigating.

Rhoda Kelly told 10 On Your Side her grandmother and father were inside. She learned about the fire on Facebook by seeing the WAVY article.

“I couldn’t stop trembling. I felt her pain,” she said.

Kelly said her father tried to save the dog.

“My dad tried to save the dog from what I was hearing, and he went back into the house, and he got a lot of smoke and got burned,” Kelly said.

She said her father is being transported to another hospital to get more care. Kelly said he grandmother is doing better than her father, but is heartbroken over her beloved dog.

“She is crying a lot because she lost her dog. She loved that dog,” Kelly said.

She said her grandmother lived in the home for around 6 decades.

“She has been here over 60 years, Kelly said. “I grew up in this house. It’s a lot to process…My grandmama will probably have to stay with me until they can do something else.”

Suffolk Fire and Rescue said the Red Cross is assisting the family.
