Jan. 24—Police responded to a burglary-in-progress of a detached garage in the 100 block of Daniel Street Southwest on Saturday afternoon and charged two Decatur men in connection with the crime, according to a Decatur police officer's affidavit.

Frank Winfield Walkenhorst, 43, and Richard Gonzalez, 60, were each arrested and charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools, court records show.

Walkenhorst was exiting a garage at the rear of the property when police arrived, while Gonzalez was found inside the residence, according to the affidavit signed by officer Thomas Kirby.

A female victim provided police with "photos of the suspects inside the garage removing several pre-hung doors," according to Kirby. "The suspects had placed six pre-hung (doors) from the garage on a small trailer that was attached to a white Ford E-350 van that was registered to Gonzalez."

Police said they determined that Walkenhorst and Gonzalez had unlawfully forced their way into the garage through a side door and were in possession of an electric drill and flathead screwdriver.

Walkenhorst remained in Morgan County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.

Gonzalez was released from Morgan County Jail on Sunday on a $2,500 bond, court records show. He's scheduled to appear before a judge March 14.
