2 dead, police officers seriously injured in pursuit crash in Fontana

Two people died and two police officers were among those injured following a collision in Fontana.

The Fontana Police Department Pubic Information Officer confirmed to KTLA that the crash, which was the result of a brief pursuit, occurred on Valley Boulevard near Cypress Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Saturday night.

“Officers…attempted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations,” the PIO said. “The driver of the vehicle did not comply, and a high-speed pursuit occurred.”

The pursuit lasted approximately 20 seconds and reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour, law enforcement officials said. The driver then collided with a responding patrol unit after losing control of their vehicle.

A total of four occupants were in the white Nissan Sentra being pursued, police said; two were rushed to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries and the other two victims died at the scene.

Neither of the decedents have been identified.

Two Fontana Police Department officers were also hospitalized due to the crash, the department confirmed. They sustained serious injuries.

Video obtained by KTLA shows first responders combing through the wreckage; a stretcher is also seen next to the severely damaged vehicles.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Traffic Investigation Team is working with the Fontana Police Department on the investigation.

Valley Boulevard between Cypress and Juniper avenues is now open, Fontana police said on social media.
