2 Central Florida restaurants shut down over live roaches, rodent droppings

Two Central Florida restaurants received emergency orders to shut down in the week of Dec. 26-Jan. 1, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Orange County

The Juicy Crab at 296 E Michigan St. in Orlando shut down on Dec. 28.

Inspectors found six violations, one of which was a high priority for 20 live roaches found in an electrical box on top of the dish machine.

Officials returned on Dec. 29.

They allowed the restaurant to reopen after they found four violations, none of which were a high priority.

Volusia County

Papa John’s Pizza store #1003 at 30 S. Atlantic Ave in Daytona Beach shut down on Dec. 29.

Inspectors found six violations, one of which was a high priority for rodent droppings found within various parts of the restaurant.

Officials returned the same day and found three violations, none of which were a high priority.

They allowed the restaurant to reopen.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with 21.

Volusia County had 9, Brevard had 1, Seminole had 1, Lake had 3, and Osceola had 5. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.

In surrounding counties, 4 warnings or complaints were filed in Polk and none in Sumter.
