2 buildings collapse in southern Italy following gas blast; 10 lightly injured

MILAN - Officials in southern Italy say two buildings have collapsed following an explosion caused by a gas leak, lightly injuring at least 10 people.

Conversano Mayor Giuseppe Lovascio told Sky 24 Italian television that the injured were in surrounding buildings and included a child. The explosion occurred in the historic centre of the town Thursday morning.

One of the collapsed buildings was not occupied, and it was not immediately clear if there was anyone inside the second building.

Conversano is located south of the city of Bari in the Apulia region, which forms the heel of the Italian boot.
