The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars picks students based on grades, excellence in the arts and technical education. The commission looks at essays, school reviews and transcripts. They also look for a commitment to community service and leadership.

About 3.7 million students will graduate from high school this year. Over 5,700 students qualified for the 2024 awards through nominations by state school officers, other partner organizations, or YoungArts, the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists, the U.S. Department of Education said.
