2 arrested after Kingston Springs LPR catches stolen truck out of Nashville

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. (WKRN) – A stolen truck and drug paraphernalia were recovered and two women were arrested, thanks to license plate recognition cameras (LPR) in Cheatham County.

Kingston Springs has an LPR camera at every major entrance into the city.

According to city officials, the system has read over one million license plates so far this year.

“These are a set of eyes out there for us, working 24/7, checking every vehicle that comes into our town. We want to know whenever criminals come into our town,” Sgt. Jeremy Vaughan with the Kingston Springs Police Department said.

According to police, the city’s LPR system has identified:

  • 132 sex offenders

  • 114 order or protection violators

  • One lost senior citizen

  • Two immigration violators

  • 28 stolen vehicles, including the truck they found Monday May 13, 2024.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office, a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was reported stolen out of Nashville tripped the sensors on Luyben Hills Road.

The responding deputy got the three passengers – two women and one man – out of the truck.

“Passenger let me see your hands. The vehicle is reported stolen,” the deputy was heard saying on body cam.

The passengers complied, asking why they were being stopped.

“It’s reported stolen. That’s why my gun is out, okay? Quit freaking out,” the deputy said.

The driver, 28-year-old Samantha Braddy, appeared nervous and upset, claiming the truck was her boyfriend’s.

When the deputy asked Braddy who her boyfriend was, she could not remember. Braddy, however, finally offered a name and asked repeatedly to call him.

The deputy, meanwhile, searched the truck and found drug paraphernalia.

“Some of them were all ready in when I took the truck,” Braddy said from the back seat as the deputy questioned her.

Ultimately, the two women found in the stolen truck had outstanding warrants and went to jail.

Only Braddy was charged with the theft of the truck.

According to police, the LPR system has also helped solve many crimes outside of Cheatham County.
