2 arrested in drugs, weapons bust

Feb. 29—HIGH POINT — Police have charged two men from High Point with nearly a dozen drug-related crimes in an investigation that netted illegal weapons, narcotics and thousands of dollars in cash.

On Wednesday about 3:30 p.m., officers with the High Point Police Department saw people who were wanted for arrest go inside a house in the 400 block of Meredith Street. During the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at the house and found 170 grams — or nearly a half pound — of heroin, one pound of marijuana, two semiautomatic handguns, a revolver and nearly $10,000 in cash.

Aaron A. Hughes, 18, is charged with trafficking opium or heroin, conspiring to traffic opium or heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute heroin, conspiring to sell or deliver heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute a Schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute marijuana, and conspiring to sell or deliver cocaine.

Edward D. Ross Jr., 32, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, trafficking opium or heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute a Schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance, conspiring to sell cocaine, and two counts of conspiring to sell heroin.

Both men were being held Thursday in the Guilford County Jail in High Point with no bond allowed, according to police.
