2 people hospitalized from fire at senior housing complex in SF Japantown

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Two people were hospitalized Friday and many others were evacuated from a two-alarm fire at a senior housing center in SF’s Japantown, the San Francisco Fire Department confirmed. The four-story residential care facility is located at 1727 Fillmore Street.

The facility is a senior housing center with 51 units, according to fire officials. Multiple residents have been evacuated and evaluated medically. Two people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

SFFD received the call at 10:47 a.m. The fire broke out on the third floor and extended to the fourth floor and the roof, fire officials said.

Four people have been evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and will not require medical attention, SFFD said. About 75 firefighters responded to the blaze. Fire investigators remained at the scene after the fire had been knocked down to try and determine the cause.
