This $2.7 million home is built into a cave (and was a bomb shelter in the '80s)—take a look inside

In Ozark, Arkansas, built deep inside a rocky, living cave is a four-bedroom home listed for $2.75 million .

The structure was originally built in the early 1980s as a bomb shelter (when the threat of a nuclear war with what was then the Soviet Union loomed). Over the years, the home has undergone a number of renovations, its most recent taking three years and $1 million, according to the New York Times .

While the cave home has served as everything from a party pad to a resort lodge, its most recent face lift by interior designer Zach Less includes luxurious features.

Known as Beckham Creek Cave, the 5,572-square-foot four-bath abode boasts cathedral ceilings, a natural waterfall and a geothermal heating system.

The kitchen has marble countertops as well as modern-day appliances like a dishwasher, dryer and washer.

The master bedroom is built within the natural formations of the cave, and each of the four bedrooms features exquisite, exposed cavern walls.

The lot is 256.9 acres, and features rock bluffs, over 30 caves, creeks and natural woods, as well as wildlife like bears, turkey and deer.

Exteriors of the lodge include a covered porch, patio, pond, balcony, barn and stable.

Currently, the Beckham Creek Cave is also operating as a vacation rental home , with rates starting at $1,200 per night. The website states it has accommodations for eight and the home can sleep up to 16 if some guests bring their own sleeping gear.

Beckham Creek Cave is located in the Ozark Mountains in Parthenon, Arkansas, about 12 miles from the Buffalo National River. It's also just a short drive from tourist-friendly locations including Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Branson, Missouri.
